Kenilworth Kestrel’s U12 9 - 2 Leamington Lions U12 JW
POM: Amelia
Thanks to Kenilworth’s spanking new 3G pitches we were fortunate to be one of the few teams able to play this Saturday due to the freezing temperatures. It was super to see our Lions in their hats and gloves, raring to go before the match.
The girls started the match with great energy, despite an opening goal from Kenilworth in the first minute, we kept up the pace and took the game to Kenilworth; who have some very good players and can easily intimidate.
We were treated to some real bright patches in the first half. A superb link up between Theia and Sophia on the left, resulted in a great cross from Sophia into the box that Kenilworth just about made safe. The quality of Holly’s control and passing is really enjoyable to watch, and Scarlett and Izzy were working together to make important clearances and thinking quickly to put the ball out to safety when needed.
We came in at half time 4-0 down but the fourth was an unlucky own goal, so we were certainly holding up against Kenilworth at this point.
We didn’t make a lot of changes at half time. Bee and Imogen switching places to see if Bee could get down the wing and Imogen make some of those great tackles in the middle. Amelia is starting to work out how to press up front while staying onside and asked at half time if she could try and shoot from a bit further out. Yes, was the answer. Clearly Bee overheard this instruction and 12 minutes into the second half managed to squeeze one through the keepers legs from outside the area. Leading goal scorer with 3 goals this season.
Not long after, Amelia produced a piece of individual excellence and moved the ball through the defence and into a great scoring opportunity. Two goals in the space of 6 minutes and I had almost completely forgotten how cold my feet were for the first time. Magic.
Despite the scoreline, Eva wasn’t busy the whole match but enough to receive praise from the opposition bench for some fine saves made with her feet. So goes the outfield player in goal!
Amelia was well-deserving of Coach’s Boot this week. Great to see her pressing the keeper and testing the defence. Keep it up. Big thanks to Alex for assisting the referee on the line. Competently executed as always.
